Yesterday at the Mi Wuk Sugar Pine Fire Protection District Auxiliary monthly meeting, Chief McClintock and our fire fighters led us in one minute of silence, with the flag at half staff, joining in with Cal Fire teams throughout the Tuolumne and Calaveras counties, honoring Eva Marie Schicke.
Tomorrow [September 12) marks the 14 year anniversary of a local tragedy when the Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit lost one if its finest, Eva Marie Schicke, on the Tuolumne Incident. Tomorrow has a special meaning for all of us in TCU. As has become tradition in the Unit, we will honor the memory of Eva by observing a moment of silence on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.
The following memorial procedure will be followed at all CAL FIRE TCU facilities:
At 1344 hours the ECC will tone all facilities in TCU and advise to fly flags at half-staff for one minute in memory of the sacrifice of our fallen firefighter, Eva Schicke.
All facilities will fly flags for one minute at half-staff, then return them to full staff.
Although tomorrow is the anniversary of this tragic event, let us always honor Eva’s memory. From her memorial marker, “Each day we can honor her by living our lives the way she did, with determination, kindness and a passion for life.”
It was a very moving and memorable moment, especially since following on the heels of 9/11 commemorations and moments of silence the previous day.
