Were you planning to go up and over the newly opened Sonora Pass this weekend? Well, think again because, yes, Sonora Pass is closed once again, at Kennedy Meadows! (Where was this weather in January/February?)
From MyMotherlode.com, Mark Truppner, for April 24, 2015, 5:02 a.m.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada above 5500 feet, from 11 pm this evening to 5 pm Saturday.
A cold low pressure system is forecast to drop out of the Gulf of Alaska and move through Northern California tonight and early Saturday.
This late season weather system will bring precipitation to most of Northern California.
Snow fall will start late this evening with the heaviest snowfall during the morning hours on Saturday.
This system will bring snow levels down to around 5500 feet by Saturday morning
Two to eleven inches of snow accumulation is expected above 5500 feet.
Winds of ten to fifteen mph are likely with gusts up to twenty-five mph.
Carry tire chains and expect travel delays.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of heavy snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
