Just the other day (May 1st) I snapped these photos off of the TV.

The 9,624-foot Sonora Pass, second-highest paved route over the Sierra Nevada range, opened on Thursday, May 3rd. I didn’t realize it had opened and was very surprised to see the road sign with the words SONORA PASS OPEN Friday morning as I drove up the hill. I wasn’t expecting that message or I would have been prepared to take a photo.
The Pass had been closed since November 21st. Now we can all drive to Bridgeport and it’ll make my drive to Boise ID much easier. I love the backroads as opposed to a lot of Hwy 80 through Carson City and Reno.
Ebbitts Pass opened at noon on Friday, May 4th.
Tioga Pass is not yet open.
If you have a current photo of Sonora Pass (or Ebbitts) please share it with us. Send it to blythek@mac.com and I’ll post it here on the blog.
Next comes summer.
