The Smoke East of Sonora is from the Tulloch Turnoff Area

Update at 5:15 p.m.: CAL Fire reports a helicopter mapping of the dubbed “Tulloch Fire” puts the total acreage at 573. Crews stopped the forward rate of spread around 4:30 p.m. and there is 25-percent contained. The CHP reports it is still directing traffic as the second lane is closed on the eastbound lanes of the highway and it is estimated to remain shut down for at least another half hour. Officers are directing one-way traffic in the open lane and vehicles are moving, according to dispatch. Crews will remain on scene mopping up for the next couple of hours. What sparked the blaze is under investigation.

Update at 4:30 p.m.: CAL Fire is reporting that crews are making progress on the Highway 108 fire as the forward rate of spread has been stopped. The blaze is between 350 to 400 acres in size and there is 25-percent containment. The CHP reports it is still directing traffic as the second lane is closed on the eastbound lanes of the highway and it is estimated to remain shut down for at least another hour. Officers are directing one-way traffic in the open lane and vehicles are moving, according to dispatch. Crews will remain on scene mopping up for the next several hours. What sparked the blaze is under investigation.

Update at 3:40 p.m.: Additional resources have been called to battle a grass fire burning along Highway 108 in the Keystone area. The CHP reports that the second lane closure on the eastbound lanes of Highway 108 is estimated to remain shut down for about two hours. Officers are directing one-way traffic in the open lane and vehicles are moving pretty freely, according to dispatch. The fire is 250 acres burning east of Tulloch Dam Road along the south side of Highway 108 and four structures are threatened. Further details on the blaze can be viewed below.

Update at 3 :15 p.m.: CAL Fire reports the fire has grown another 140 acres to 250 acres. The CHP has close the second lane on the eastbound lanes and officers are directing one-way traffic, which is getting backed up.

Update at 2:30 p.m.: The fire has jumped to 110 acres. CAL Fire reports that four structures are threatened and more resources are being called to the scene. Pictures in the image box show the large plume of smoke in the area.

Update at 2:15 p.m.: CAL Fire reports the fire is now ten acres in size and moving at a moderate rate of spread burning in grass along Highway 108. A large plume of smoke can be seen in the area.

Original post at 2 p.m.: Tuolumne County, CA — Air and ground resources are battling a vegetation fire along highway 108 in Tuolumne County, between Knights Ferry and Keystone.

The flames broke out near the eastbound lane on the south side of the highway in the area of Tulloch Dam Road. CAL Fire reports the flames are burning in grass at a moderate rate of spread and the fire’s size is estimated at an acre. Traffic is moving slowly as there [are] plenty of fire crews and equipment in the area.   We’ll keep you posted as more details come into the news center.
